When the Duchess of Cambridge arrives at a charity event, a royal engagement or a red carpet, she always looks perfect.
She’s rarely without a fresh blow-dry and a perfectly co-ordinated outfit, and her beautiful look is always a hit with fans.
But it’s a very different story when she’s off-duty and at the family’s home in Kensington Palace, and despite her royal status insiders say she’s just like a ‘normal mum’.
Despite having one of the best nannies in the country, Kate and William are very hands on parents – and they work hard to make their royal trio’s lives as ‘normal’ as possible.
A friend gave an insight into what Kate is like as a mum, explaining that she’s “very chilled at home” but definitely not a pushover and will tell the kids off when needed.
They told People : “It’s a normal, busy family home with kids running around and knocking things over. There’s no airs and graces.
“She is doing that to help her children be more grounded and keep their reality in check. That’s what really matters to her.”
And when it comes to her look, off-duty Kate is very different to the glamorous one we’re used to seeing.
They add: “There are no blow-dries—it’s always hair up in a ponytail,” says the friend. She’s either in her gym clothes, or a dress and sneakers, very little makeup, apologizing as she’s late for the school run before dashing off. It’s the life of a working mom with three young children—just a different sort of day job to most.”
The source added that Kate relies on the “tight” team around her to help with George, Charlotte and Louis.

The family’s nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo has been with them since George was a baby, and joins them on royal tours as well as helping out at home.
Kate’s family are very hands on when it comes to childcare, and step in when the couple have royal commitments.
Kate has spoken about life as a mum a number of times, but her most open interview was when she sat down with I’m A Celeb star Giovanna Fletcher on her podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby.
Asked if she feels mum guilt, she replied: “Yes absolutely – and anyone who doesn’t as a mother is actually lying.
“Yep – all the time, Even this morning, coming to the nursery visit here – George and Charlotte were like ‘Mummy how could you possibly not be dropping us off as school this morning?’
“It’s a constant challenge – you hear it time after time from mums, even mums who aren’t necessarily working and aren’t pulled in the directions of having to juggle work life and family life.”
She also says she sometimes feels guilty about the parenting decisions she makes.
She said: “[You’re] always sort of questioning your own decisions and your own judgements and things like that, and I think that starts from the moment you have a baby.”
She goes on to explain how she deals with the guilt, relaying something a “very wise man” told her.

She said: “The more people you have around your children who are safe and loving and caring, the better.
“So yeah – it was a real weight off my shoulders that actually it’s not totally my responsibility to do everything, because you know we all have good days, bad days – and you can dilute that with others who aren’t on that particular day struggling.
“I think it makes such a difference for your child, keeping them as constant and happy as possible.”
